Apa sebenarnya yang dimaksud dengann prosesor quad core ini ?

Prosesor (microprocessor) atau CPU (Central Proseccing Unit) adalah komponen ada komputer yang mampu menterjemahkan dan menjalankan instruksi serta mengolah data.Nah, salah satu parameter penting dari sebuah prosesor adalah kecepatan dalam menyekesaikan tugas.

Ada beberapa cara untuk meningkatakan kecepatan processor, misalnya dengan menaikan frekuensi kerja prosessor, Pentium III pada awalmya diluncurkan memiliki frrekuensi kerja sebesar 450 MHz kemudian secara bertahap ditingkatkan hingga melebihi 1 Ghz. Tren frekuensi kerja yang semakin tinggi ini diteruskan oleh pentium 4 hingga menembus 3 GHz.

Peningkatan frekuensi kerja ini mendapatkan hambatan besar berupa besarnya daya yang diperlukan dari panas yang dihasilkan untuk menjalankan prosesor pada frekuensi yang lebih tinggi lagi,seperti pentium 4 pada frekuensi 3,4 GHz dan seterusnya, selain itu juga adalah tingginya tingkat kesulitan dalam memproduksi prosesor yang bekerja stabil pada frekuensi tinggi.

Hambatan hambatan ini membuat intel dan AMD beralih ke solusi lain dalam meningkatkan kecepatan prosesor.Solusi yang dipilih intel adalah menggabungkan dua buah pentium 4 ke dalam satu buah prosesor. Prosesor ini diberi nama dengan pentium D dan disebut dengan dual core, AMD juga memili solusi dual core ini meski menggunakan cara yang berbeda. Prosesor dual core AMD diberi nama Athlon 64 X2. Dapat dikatakan, prosesor ini memiliki 2 otal (kiri dan kanan).

Tidak seperti peningkatan frekuensi kerja, prosesor dual core pada awalnya tidak bisa dimanfaatkan secara optimal oleh banyak aplikasi yang biasa digunakan. Ini disebabkan aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut tidak dirancang untuk memanfaatkan "otak" kedua pada prosesor dual core, kini para pembuat aplikasi sudah mengotimalkan aplikasi-aplikasi tersebut sehingga mampu memanfaatkan kekuatan prosesor dual core secara optimal.

Langkah selanjutnya dari prosesor dual core adalah prosesor quad core, bila prosesor dual core diibartkan memiliki 2 otak, maka prosesor quad core memiliki 4 otak sekaligus. Prosesor quad core untuk PC intel adalah Core 2 Quad. Solusi quad core intel ini menggunakan cara yang menyerupai pentium D.Bila pentium D menggabungkan dua buah pentium, maka Core 2 Quad menggabungkan dua buah core 2 Duo. Most Popular Laptops for January 2009

Each month we compile data for the number of times a particular notebook is viewed on this site's product pages to get an idea for what mainstream consumers are looking at and thinking about buying. While these laptops aren't necessarily the most popular in terms of sales, they are the most popular based on the number of times our visitors clicked on them.

In that sense, think of this list as the "most clickable laptops of the month" ... the notebooks that most of the people visiting this site are interested in learning about. Keep in mind that clicks directly on the "Most Popular Laptops" list do not count toward the total in order to keep the list as fair as possible each month. The only clicks that count toward the monthly totals come from web searches like Google or from visitors who have clicked on a laptop after visiting our "Notebook Database" or inside our forums.

The first month of 2009 had a few small surprises in terms of what notebooks our readers wanted to see. In fact, last month we saw an increase in the number of consumers looking for reviews of "netbooks" (low-cost ultraportable notebooks). Nevertheless, we're still seeing strong family notebooks like the HP Pavilion dv5t and Dell Studio 15 on the list. Likewise, the new Dell Studio XPS 16 and the HP HDX 18 are looking mighty attractive to consumers looking for family computers with great multimedia capabilities. Overall, the list for January 2009 suggests that that consumers are looking for good values in hard economic times ... but they're also still looking for notebooks with solid performance.

1. Acer Aspire One (Previously #2) - The Aspire One is the latest "netbook" from Acer, offering a convenient, compact design at a budget price. The Aspire One features an Intel Atom Processor, 8.9" WSVGA TFT LCD, and a choice of either Genuine Windows XP Home Edition or Linpus Linux Lite version.

2. HP Pavilion dv5t (Previously #1) - The dv5t features an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, up to 4096MB DDR2 System Memory, NVIDIA GeForce Go graphics available and 15.4" diagonal WXGA BrightView Widescreen.

3. Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (Back in the Top 10) - The Inspiron Mini 9 has an 8.9-inch widescreen display and can be configured with either Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux. The Mini 9 is powered by an Intel Atom processor for power saving performance. An 8GB flash drive makes it so the Mini is quiet and has very fast storage and configure up to 1GB of RAM for a performance boost too.

4. HP Mini-Note (Back in the Top 10) - The HP Mini-Note has a VIA C7-M ULV processor, 8.9-inch diagonal WXGA, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and VIA Chrome 9 integrated graphics. The new HP Mini 2140 is the updated replacement with an Intel Atom processor and a 10-inch screen.

The enormous demand on hardware of Bioshock and the brand-new Medal of Honor shocks. A better result might only be possible with a more powerful processor. Also the 3dMark results indicate that the CPU is indeed the clear bottleneck of this configuration. Still, we measured the highest 3dMark06 points so far. And also the Fear points impress. All current games can be played with maximum details, but, not all the time with the maximum resolution of the panel.

Our Alienware came with Windows XP, which is at the time of writing the only way to utilize both video cards, because Vista still does not support SLI.

Despite being optimized for performance this notebook's noise level is still surprisingly low. This gets most evident in idle mode, where the notebook's noise is very decent.

Not surprisingly the noise rises under load, but still it's not a problem for the user. Although, the noise is clearly audible and present, it does not compromise fun during playing exciting games.

Temperature

Here the Alienware gave us a real surprise. Whilst the maximum at the bottom is 50°C, a high, but appropriate result considering the performance, the palm rest areas attract by an average of 30°C. Because one won't likely use the Alienware of 4 kilo weight on the lap, this is indicates a good thermal design. Furthermore, all the waste heat is emitted at the back side, so neither left nor right hander are disturbed.

Speaker

The sound of the two stereo speakers at the front side and of the sub-woofer at the bottom side convinces and is brilliant considering it is a notebook. Only the sonority could be better.

The sound output of the 3.5mm stereo port and the surround sound is clear and without any point of critique.

Alienware m9750

The battery runtime of this notebook should not really influence the purchase decision of potential prospects. More or less it provides a continues power supply even in case of an outage. Or to be able to carry the turned-on notebook from one socket to another. At full load the battery runtime is less than one hour. No wonder, it has to support two video cards, two hard disks and a 17" display.

Valentine's Virus

A worm posing as a Valentine greeting is spreading fast across the internet.

The Dref-AB worm has been deliberately timed so office workers and home computer users to find the malicious email in their inbox first thing this morning. Since midnight GMT, the Dref-AB worm has accounted for 76.4 percent of all malware sighted at Sophos's global network of virus monitoring stations.

'This new Valentine attack is spreading hard and fast across the net, accounting for over three quarters of all the malware we've seen at email gateways around the globe since February 14 began,' said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos.

Subject lines used in the attack are many and varied, but all pose as a romantic message. The worm is attached to the emails in files called flash postcard.exe, greeting postcard.exe, greeting card.exe, or postcard.exe.

'Cynical hackers are using the theme of Valentine's Day to conquer innocent people's computers and use them for their own money-making purposes,' said Cluley. 'Your PC and the data on it is precious, and it needs to be protected. No-one should be blinded by the excitement of Valentine's Day into opening unsolicited attachments or clicking on links to unknown websites, as you could be falling deep into a hacker's trap.'

Opening the attached files on a PC activates the worm, which then sends itself to other email addresses found on the now infected computer.

The worm code is designed to download further malicious code from the internet in an attempt to take over the PC, convert it into part of a zombie network, and use it to send spam on behalf of hacking gangs.
